Community Hands is a program that promotes equality between the different members of our community. We make use of accommodation, advocacy, and education in order to help encourage such equality. It is our goal to create a community wherein various cultural groups are equally empowered.
Supported Community Living
Supported Community Living services provide the additional supports needed so deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind individuals can work and live independently in their community. Services include but are not limited to: education and support navigating medical, social, financial, communal, and educational systems.

Employment Services
Navigating employment is challenging, but for a deaf individual these challenges can be overwhelming barriers. We provide education, training, guidance, and direction to those deaf individuals wanting assistance. Our program gives both employers and employees the tools and resources they need to achieve their employment and independence goals.

Child Enrichment Activities
Deaf children are unable to fully participate in many community and extra-curricular activities due to language barriers. Adult language models are essential to language development and developing a sense of well-being and cultural pride. Our services seek to provide activities and programs encouraging self-actualization and self-confidence through deaf mentoring, role modeling, and language access.

Events & Training
Events are hosted and sponsored to provide social and educational opportunities for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind individuals.

ASL Classes
Sign Language classes are offered for individuals and companies both on-site and at the Community Hands’ office. These classes will provide communication skills needed to communicate at a basic level with those using Sign Language. Cultural information is sprinkled throughout the class to give a better understanding of the Deaf perspective.

There are a lot of resources that are available for you in order to live better lives in the community. If you have questions about how our advocacy can personally help you in your situation, please feel free to contact us at 319-214-0423.
